Post 8 - Parent involvment
Your final blog post will be about parent involvement in schools. After our discussion in class and your reading of chapter 6 you should have a good understanding of how important this connection is for the success of a child. Watch the youtube links and post a comment about parental involvement. What are your thoughts? Do you have an interesting story from your schooling about your parent or a classmate's parent being involved in school? How important do you think it is? What can you do as a first year teacher to help parents become more involved? Pick one of the questions above as a springboard for your post. I also posted the Homework youtube in case you wanted to view it again. I have truly enjoyed having you in class. I wish you success on your journey toward becoming a teacher. :-) Mrs. B

I like the podcast about parks middle school. I believe that when students see their parents helping out at school they want to do better to impress them. I went to elementary school at Sacred Heart, and they would have parents helping in the lunchroom during lunch. My mom sold the mik cartons that only cost ten cents. I enjoyed having her there during the day because I knew if I did mis behave my teacher would know exactly where to find my mom.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Positive Link Between Parents and Kids youtube. It reminded me of when I was in elementary school. My mom would sometimes come in and help my teacher out, especially when it came to classroom parties. A lot of other moms did this too. I always liked having my mom come in and do that. I felt like she cared about what I did in school. I look back on that and I think of the students whose parents who came in and helped out. Those students are close to their parents to this day. I think it is because their parents took time and helped out the class by taking a load off the teacher and making the class fun to be in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kimberly that parents helping out at school does improve the student's behavior. When my mom would help out, I would try to do my best not to misbehave while she was there.
ReplyDeleteI liked the positive link between parents and kids youtube. My mom never got to help out during school parties or anything but she did go on a few field trips with us. I enjoyed being around her and made sure to behave because the teacher could punish me at school and my mom could punish me more at home!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kimberly. I believe students want to impress their parents as well so they do whatever they can to make their parents proud of them. Once again, when my mom was there I wanted to make sure I was on my best behavior so I didn't possibly get punished for the same bad behavior, twice.
