Post 6 - Technology in the classroom
Watch the Technology youtubes on the right. Reflect upon what you saw. What are your thoughts about technology in the classroom? How could the Amazon Kindle change typical textbooks in the future? Please share an example of how a teacher effectively or ineffectively utilized technology in the classroom.

I think this technology is going to be very useful in years to come. The Smartboard is already taking off in some schools currently. I think the Amazon Kindle will be no different than the typical textbook, except the Amazon Kindle will be electronic and help us save trees. I think the math teacher in the Smartboard uses youtube used his Smartboard effectively. It really helped the students learn divisiblity.
ReplyDeletepersonally i hate technology i guess i jsut wasn't born with the gene. however, my teahcers in highscool used smartboards and they were pretty cool eventhough i sided with the old school teachers who didn't even bothe turning them on. The amason kindle looks ok but i prefer the textbook it doesn't need to charged.
ReplyDeleteI agree with margaret that the amazon kindle will save some trees and that all that i really like about it. And as long as there will be somewhere there to help me figure out how to use technology bring it on.
ReplyDeleteTechnology in the classroom seems to be improving each year. The amazon kindle looks like great new technolgy that will save students from having all those books. The teacher in the video did a great job of using the smartboard, allowing use for several examples.
ReplyDeletei agree with Sarah about possibly needing help with new technologies. I think its important for teachers to stay "informed" on how to use new technologies for the classroom, so that they can get the fullest use from them.
ReplyDeleteI support Sarah siding with her teachers that did not use the smartboards. There are some students out there that feel distracted with the use of technology in learning and prefer just using chalk or dry erase boards and paper textbooks. Also, not everyone can work with technology. Teachers should feel confortable teaching how they want to teach but keep up with the modern age.
ReplyDeleteI was at my class I am observing and we went to thier computer lab to use the smart board I have never seen it really used so it was very interesting how my teacher used it to teach the er,ar,ir,or and ur sounds. So I can see how useful it can be for our future generations to be introduce with the technology.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Margaret and Sarah that teachers should feel comfortable using the technology even though they are not good at the technology they still need to be able to introduce it to our future because that is what they will be using in thier life times the paper stage is almost not here any more.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is going to be even more efficient by the time we graduate and begin teaching. My sister has a smartboard in her classroom and I think it is a great learning tool, other than the typical chalk or dry-erase board. The teacher in the video did a great job giving examples. It def. made me think of some creative ideas to teach.

ReplyDeleteIn my highschool each classroom had a smartboard and each teacher used it differently. I reallyenjoyed having that sort of technology in the classroom bc now when i go to teach some where that has them, ill already know how to use them bc i have had hands on use with one. I also realized while i was observing that the special needs students at the school really enjoyed bbeing able to go to the smartboard and touch and write whihc helps them with their learning skills. The Amazon kindle, im not too sold on yet. I see a lot of problems like, the up front cost, then the cost of the material to be downloaded. It ca break which just gives the students a nother reason for not doing their homework. But i do the side of things for helping the enviroment, which im all for.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that some teachers dont know how to use the technology provided in the classrooms. and in that case it jsut goes to waste. At my highschool the teachers had to take a course on how to use the smartboard. And to comment on what courtney said about margaret, the way the material is presented all depends on the theacher. the teacher could just show a slide show and have the students take notes and in that case the students are realy learning, they are just copying whats on the smartboard. I think there should be an equal meduim with the technology and have hands on activites along with the learning from powerpoint presentations.
ReplyDeleteI really like the smartboard and think it would be great for sstudents, especially the younger ones. My sister's class has one and all the kids love it. I think a smartboard would be good to help get the kids more active in the lesson. I also like the idea of the amazon kindle. I think it would help kids be more organized and their back[acks wouldn't be so heavy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessica that teachers need to be informed or trained on how to use technology in the classroom because in my high school the spanish teacher would always let us do "work" in the computer lab during class but all we did was get on myspace and facebook.
ReplyDeleteIn my highschool most teachers had smartboards, the ones who didn't had LCD projectors. A lot of technology was used in my school and I think it will also be great in the near future.
ReplyDeletei agree with kelsey and jessica about how teachers must be trained on how to use the advanced technology. technology will only be improving and getting better in the near future, which means a lot more learning can be done!
ReplyDeleteI think that technology in the classroom is very important. Students now days use technology for everything and schools need to keep up with the times. After watching these Youtubes, I think the Smart Boards are incredible tools that can hopefully be integrated into all classromms in the near future. As well as the Kindle...think about the paper that could be saved, the money that could be saved and studetns wouldn't have to lug around 10 books everyday. Technology is making education easier just as it has other aspects of our lives. An example of a teacher using technology effectively in the classroom is Mrs. Bishop and this blog. We are sharing our opinions and doing an assignment right now. I have also used Podcasts in a class,where each student listened to the podcast each week and came in and shared the information with the rest of the class. It was a nice change to listen instead of read something.
ReplyDeleteI liked Kimberly's post. Smart Boards are a good tool but the teacher has to know how to use them. A good idea would be to make the teachers take a course, as a teacher I would welcome the knowledge. I would want to know what I was doing and reap the most benefits from the product. Teachers unwilling to further their knowledge of technology wouldn't be able to successfully integrate it into the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI love technology is classrooms, but sometimes I think it should only be used in higher grade levels. But today, younger students are knowing more about technology than their adults. The Amazon Kindle seem interesting and I wouldn't mind using them. I barely used textbooks in school and its the same way in college. Maybe the Kindle will save money. I havent had a teacher who used technology, except for computers. I went to a school that couldn't offer such technology to its students. With the increase of technology needs and wants in a classroom, this may cause a problem with certain school districts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone, but I think people like me who havent been introduced to certain technology uses may need to learn more about such. Maybe their should be a course that teaches things like this, instead of teaching the basics about teaching and the students you will have.
ReplyDeleteI think the different types of technology in these videos will hugely affect the way we will teach our students. We won't be able to just think back to the way we were taught, but we'll have to look at the new technology and use that to teach. I also think that the Amazon Kindle will eventually replace books altogether. It will also be a more efficient way for schools and students to use rather buying a textbook for each individual child.

ReplyDeleteI think technology can only make teaching and learning better. There are some teachers that think they know everything about what is new out there and use it too much. I might just be old fashioned and like a good lecture every once and a while, but technology and change is necessary. My dad is a math teacher and uses and smartboard. I can see where in a math class where you do a lot of examples and notes it would be very handy to have. I am an English major so I do not know how useful it would be for my lessons, but you never know. The class I am observing uses technology a lot. Videos, powerpoints, etc. One day, the teacher got online and projexted the screen for the class to see. See used a texting poll to ask the students questions. I thought it was amazing. I would use that for test reviews and such. The students loved it because they were allowed to use thier phone and they did not even know that they were learing. The Amazon Kindles are deffinitely a good invention and would make class work a lot easier and more convenient.

ReplyDeleteThe teacher in the video did a great job using the smartboard. Technology is always changing and it is important to stay up with the technology. The kindle can really help in the classroom by bringing reading information immediately to the students. I am fortunate to have a KINDLE and it is really great.

ReplyDeleteI feel that technology needs to be a big part of what goes on in the classroom. For one thing most students today have a much better understanding on how to use the internet which is a huge part of technology now. As far as the Amazon Kindle, I think that could be somewhat useful if they are affordable for everyone. If not then students who are less fortunate wont be able to indulge in the technologically avanced world we live in today and that wouldnt be fair.
ReplyDeleteIn the school that i was observing at each grade level has at least 2 smart boards. I know the teachers love them and is very handy at times. Technology wether or not we like it is coming and we need to prepare ourselves and learn how to use it.
ReplyDeletei agree with Jaclyn.i think technology will make the learning place a better place. and like she said she like a good lecture here and there and we dont have to take that away for incorperate it in!
